CNC Cylindrical Grinder

In modern manufacturing, high-precision CNC cylindrical grinder have become essential equipment for producing precision shaft components due to their outstanding machining accuracy. However, as these machines operate over long periods, their complex electrical systems inevitably encounter various faults. Mastering scientific and effective methods for electrical fault diagnosis and repair is key to ensuring stable machine operation and maintaining high machining precision.

1. Power Supply Faults: Inspection and Handling

Power supply faults are among the most common electrical issues in high-precision CNC cylindrical grinder. When the machine fails to start, the first step is to check the external power supply lines. Use a multimeter to measure the power voltage and verify whether there is phase loss, voltage instability, or low voltage. If the external power supply is normal, further inspection of the machine’s internal power switch, fuse, and contactor is required.

Fuse blowing is usually caused by circuit short circuits, such as motor winding shorts or insulation damage in wiring. During maintenance, carefully locate and repair the short circuit, then replace the fuse with one of the correct specifications. Contactor faults may cause poor contact, preventing the machine from powering properly. Inspect the contactor contacts for burning or oxidation, and use a multimeter to check the coil’s power status. Replace the contactor if necessary to ensure a stable power supply.

2. Control System Fault Identification and Repair

The CNC system acts as the "brain" of the grinder, playing a decisive role in machine stability and machining accuracy. When the CNC system alarms, carefully read the alarm codes and consult the equipment manual to identify the fault cause. Common servo alarms may relate to servo driver faults, servo motor damage, or encoder abnormalities.

For servo driver faults, check the input and output voltages and the status of power modules. Use a substitution method to determine if the driver itself is faulty. For servo motor issues, test the winding resistance and insulation performance to ensure normal operation. Encoder faults can be diagnosed by checking the output pulse signals; if abnormal, replace the encoder promptly to maintain positioning accuracy.

3. Sensor Fault Diagnosis and Maintenance

Sensors are critical components for achieving precise control of the grinder. Displacement sensors monitor the relative position between the grinding wheel and the workpiece, while temperature sensors monitor key areas such as motors and bearings. Sensor faults may cause machining dimension deviations or trigger equipment alarms.

When a displacement sensor fails, use an oscilloscope to check its output signals and inspect the power supply and wiring connections. If the hardware is intact, the sensor’s internal circuitry may be faulty and require replacement. For temperature sensor faults, check whether the installation is loose or the wiring is damaged, and replace the sensor if necessary to ensure safe operation.

4. Systematic Fault Diagnosis Process

Faced with a complex electrical system, maintenance personnel should have solid electrical theory knowledge and follow a step-by-step fault diagnosis procedure: from the power supply to the control system, then to the sensors. By combining equipment operation data and alarm information, faults can be accurately located and addressed with targeted measures to quickly and effectively resolve issues, ensuring stable machine operation.
